Exhibition: Carscapes5 November 2004
CARSCAPES is latest exhibition of new, innovative work by renowned Darwin photographer and Charles Darwin University graphic design lecturer, Bronwyn Wright.
Ms Wright explained that while her works are still entirely inspired by The Swamp, she has begun to paint on canvas instead of on the abandoned cars. “My work is changing due to the NT government's decision to put up a whopping big padlocked gate to the entrance to The Swamp. This has blocked the young guys’ access to the Swamp and I don't have that interactive element as much any more,” Ms Wright said. “In CARSCAPES, I have combined acrylics and photography by painting and screen printing on canvas. The image of one car is repeated throughout the exhibition but the colours are very different. “On large canvases I am responding in particular to the colours in The Swamp - its vegetation, afternoon light, cliffs and rock ochres. Many paintings are also named after familiar flowering trees and plants and special features in the Swamp.” A preview of CARSCAPES can be accessed at www.raftartspace.com.au/current.html An article outlining Ms Wright’s work and the inspiration she draws from The Swamp is included in the latest edition of the University’s magazine Origins which will be distributed throughout Charles Darwin University next week. |
