The Charles Darwin University Anthropology 2004 Seminar Series continues this Friday with a seminar focused on Aboriginal responses to changing land-island landscapes in the south west Gulf of Carpentaria Dr Robin Sim from the Australian National University will be present the seminar “Results from recent archaeological and environmental research on Vanderlin Island highlight patterns in the timing of Aboriginal use of Australia’s offshore islands in the past,” Dr Smith explained. “Research from Vanderlin Island in the Yanyuwa area of the Gulf of Carpentaria is used to explore how people responded in the past to changing environments and issues such as El Nino.” The role of watercraft development, island use and changes in food resources over time is also examined as part of this seminar. |
